Grievance Procedure Information
Accommodation Appeals/Grievance Procedures
New Mexico State University Alamogordo (NMSU-A) offers both informal and formal ways to resolve concerns about disability accommodations. These steps are designed to address complaints quickly and fairly, including concerns covered by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Note: You can file a Discrimination Grievance with the Director of the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) at any time if you believe an NMSU-A faculty or staff member discriminated against you because of a disability. For information about accessibility and discrimination, visit the OIE Website or contact OIE at equity@nmsu.edu or 575-646-3635.
Informal Procedures
- Start by talking with your instructor about the concern. This is often the fastest way to solve the issue.
- If you are not comfortable talking with your instructor, you can contact the NMSU-A ASD Coordinator at 575-439-3721 or email asdnmsua@nmsu.edu for help.
Local Formal Procedures
If the issue is not resolved through the informal steps above, you can submit an Appeal/Grievance form using the link below.
- Fill out the Accommodation Appeal/Grievance Procedures form within ten (10) working days of the situation. The ASD Coordinator or the Vice President of Student Success will review the form and may include others to come to a resolution.
Formal Appeal Procedures
You also have these two formal appeal options:
- File a Discrimination Grievance with the Director of the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) at any time. Visit the OIE Website or contact OIE at equity@nmsu.edu or 575-646-3635.
- File a Discrimination Grievance with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR). More information is available on the OCR Website.
