NMSU-A Foundation
NMSU-A Overview
We can probably all agree education is an essential element in creating and maintaining the kind of society in which we want to live, work, and raise our families. How does education further these goals? What happens, in other words, when individuals are transformed by education, and how is this translated into better communities? Economic prosperity would be reason enough to support education, but I would suggest the benefits go even deeper.
Education does not only benefit the individual but also the communities in which the educated live, work, and raise families. First we might note that in a democratic society, the development of citizens capable and willing to follow current events, distinguish facts from fiction, and participate in the political system is essential in such a system, citizenship is an activity as much as it is a fact.
The more educated the citizenry, the better prepared they are to think and act as citizens, and the better the outcome for society. Second, the extent to which a person is able to be self-reliant is determined, in great measure, by the breadth and depth of their knowledge and their ability to apply this knowledge through work. The more self-sufficient, the less likely individuals will need assistance from the government or other individuals. Finally, education for one generation correlates to future generation. In this sense, education creates a virtual cycle in which each successive generation becomes more educated, and the benefits to society are multiplied.
With an all-volunteer directorship, our budget, administration costs, and fundraising costs are zero.
