I Have A Dream Viewing

Date: February 13th
Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Location: Townsend Library
Description:
On August 28, 1962, Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. gave his "I have a Dream" speech. Standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before a crowd of an estimated 250,000 people, King was the featured speaker for the culmination of the March on Washington, D.C. for Jobs and Freedom.
A video recording of Dr. King giving his famous "I have a Dream" speech will be shown followed by a discussion of the speech facilitated by Kim Lopez Gallagher, Professor of U.S. History, Philosophy and Political Science at NMSU Alamogordo.
Our discussion will have two purposes. First, to note the effectiveness of the speech in articulating the goal of racial equality and in influencing the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Second, to note the continued power of King's words in our pursuit of a world where all are "Free at Last."
