Library Computer Policy

New Mexico State University – Alamogordo Townsend Library provides computer access to students, staff, faculty, and members of the public. The majority of the library computers are intended for the use of currently enrolled students and current NMSU faculty and staff.   

 

Procedures:  

  • Unlimited use is avalable for anyone with university credentials
  • In times of high volume, students using the computers for recreational, and non-academic use may be limited. 
  • All community patrons computers are available on a first come, first serve bases.
  • Community patrons must have a current library card to gain access to the computers. 
  • If there is a wait for computer, community patrons will be limited to 1 hour on the computer.
  • Before accessing community patron computers. patrons must sign in on the computer log sheet at the  circulation desk.
  • Priority is given to NMSU students for class assignments. In times of high volume, students, staff, or faculty may need to access the community patrons computers. If this happens, we will ask ussers who have been on the computer the longest to sign off based on the sign-in sheet.
  • Parents or legal guardians are responsibe for their children's use of the internet and what the child might see on the screen.
  • Children under the age of 18 must be accopanied by their parent\legal guardians and cannot be left alone on a computer.
  • Installing software or changing setting on the computer is prohibited.
  • Anything you may have saved to the harddrive will be erased when the computer is powered off. Users can save their documents to a removable storage drive. 
  • Library computer equipment and software must be used in a resposible manner. Exessive sound levels, deliberate misuse, hacking, introduction of computer viruses, or any other inappropriate uses are not permitted.
  • Computers will be shut down 15 minuted prior to closing time, all print jobs must be completed and reported to the circulation desk at this time. 
  • Problems wiith computers must be reported to the Townsend Library staff immedistely. Do not attempt to fix the probem yourself. 
  • Personal cell phones must be kept on silent. Any phone cals must be taken in the front lobby or outside the front doors.
