AASN & LPN End Of Student Learning Outcomes (EPLO)
EPLO 1
The learner will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of the professional nurse, embracing lifelong learning to improve the quality of health care.
EPLO 2
The learner will apply theoretical and practical nursing teaching by evaluating the needs of the individual.
EPLO 3
The learner will demonstrate the ability to therapeutically communicate and collaborate with culturally diverse patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare professional to achieve quality patient-centered care.
EPLO 4
The learner will utilize the nursing process as a basis for clinical decision-making in providing patient/resident/client, family, and community care.
EPLO 5
The learner will evaluate individual patient condition and provide individualized nursing care to diverse patient/resident/client populations across the lifespan.
EPLO 6
The learner will distinguish safety and ethical considerations and apply these professional nursing standards to ensure the wellbeing of self, patients/residents/clients and community.
EPLO 7
The learner will model the appropriate professional nursing care response in a variety of scenarios including urgent, emergent, or crises situations.
Health Education System Incorporated (HESI® A2) Admission Exam
Students who are completing Level IV and are in academic good standing will take the HESI® A2 exam during finals week. Students must score must score an 80% or better to successfully pass the exam and NURS 201 Special Topics (NCLEX RN Review). An Academic Plan will be devised and mutually agreed upon by the student and nursing faculty. The student’s and nursing faculty must sign and date all forms. NMSU-A Nursing students will take the HESI® A2 exam at a designated Prometric Testing Center. The ID number utilized by all nursing students for taking the HESI® A2 exam will be specific to the NMSU-A Nursing programs.
The Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI®) exam is a set of exams that include mathematics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and anatomy & physiology that serve to determine the applicant’s level of preparation for entering into a nursing program of study, as well as predict the success of a student on the nursing licensure exam who has completed a nursing program successfully.
The HESI® A2 exam, utilized as an entrance to the NMSU-A AASN and LPN nursing programs, takes approximately four (4) hours to complete. Most of the questions are multiple-choice, with some fill-in-the-blank mathematics questions and are listed by category, number of questions in each category, and the time allotted for each.
Student Technology Requirements
The following is a list of technology requirements that each student’s device will need to have:
Desktop or laptop with the following:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or current
- Hard drive space: 10 GB or more and 1 GB or more of free space
- Monitor resolution: 1024 x 768 full-color resolution or greater
- Ports: at least one USB port
- Portable storage: USP jump/thumb/flash drive, 512K or larger
- Internet: High-speed internet access is highly recommended
- Email: an official NMSU email account and access
- Learning Management System: Canvas access
- Software: Office 365, available at https://studenttech.nmsu.edu/microsoft-office-365/, Google Chrome (free download); Microsoft
