Mission Statement

NMSU-A Office of Veterans Programs main function is to serve as the liaison between NMSU-A students and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Our duties include:
  • Certifying students for required courses which apply to their degree programs
  • Reporting adjustments of students schedules credit hours, and final grades
  • Ensuring that we are in compliance with all VA regulations and standards

In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679(e), your educational institution adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from VA. This educational institution will not:

  • Prevent the student’s enrollment
  • Assess a late penalty fee to the student
  • Require the student to secure alternative or additional funding
  • Deny the student access to any resources (access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities) available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.
  • Provide 90 days after the date the institution certified tuition and fees following the receipt of the COE

You may be eligible for several types of VA education and training benefits, but there are many things to consider before you apply for a GI Bill ® program. For most participants, the Post-9/11 GI Bill is the best option. Other students would benefit more from the Montgomery GI Bill. The following comparison tools may make it easier to decide which education and training benefits are best for you.

For every semester you wish to use your VA benefits, each student must submit a copy of their registration document to the Veterans Programs Office.
Note: The registration document will be automatically emailed to your MyNMSU within 24 to 48 hours after you register for classes.
Note: If you do not wish to use your benefits, please do not email your registration document.

Steps below are instructions on how to receive the email after you register for classes. 

  1. Log into myNMSU
  2. Select Student and then Registration
  3. Select term you are currently registering for
  4. Select request a registration document via eMail
  5. Select the correct term and click email me the registration document
  6. click on the eMail link on the myNMSU home page.

The veterans lounge is a quiet area designed for our student veterans and their dependents who need to decompress. The lounge has study desks, recliners and subdued lighting to provide a quiet and calming environment for our veterans. Please fill out this FORM to request a code to the lounge.
