Greg Hillis
Education:
My education accomplishments began with a B.S.in Chemistry from the University of New Mexico. Yes, I am a Lobo, but isn’t everyone? In addition to my training as a Navy Nuclear Engineer, I also earned an M.S.in Management Science (1990) from Salve Regina College and an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies (1991) from the Naval War College.
Career:
I spent 20 years in the Navy as a submarine nuclear power engineer and as an operations research analyst. Following my career in the Navy, I spent time designing cable TV systems. in 2001, I began teaching for NMSU-A as an adjunct and eventually began working in the Institutional Research Office in 2003 were I continued until 2021. I am currently the Career and Technology Division Head and have officially worked at NMSU-A longer than anywhere else.
Personal:
I am a native New Mexican, born in Portales, and an Alamogordo High School graduate. I’ve been happily married to my wife, Beth more than four decades. She is an NMSU student pursuing a Fine Arts degree in photography. All four of our children attended NMSU and NMSU-A, and, to date, three have completed bachelor's degrees from NMSU. As such, I have an excellent understanding of the value of community education and have a strong interest in the success of our community and NMSU-A.
